The Y-8X is maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) with four-engine turboprop, in service with the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). This is a ground war maritime patrol and antisubmarine warfare (ASW) aircraft, based on the Y-8 turboprop transport aircraft. The aircraft was developed and built by the Corporation Shaanxi Aircraft Industry, a subsidiary of AVIC 1.The Y-8X maritime patrol can perform surveillance, anti-submarine warfare and search and rescue missions (SAR). The aircraft carried out patrols in the East China Sea region. The Plan also deployed the aircraft on reconnaissance missions to collect aerial photos of the islands near the South China Sea. The aircraft also can be equipped for mission electronics and signal intelligence.
