The USNS Bob Hope entered service with U.S. Navy in 1998. This is a great boat at about 1,000 meters long and with 380,000 square feet of capacity. In fact, the ship is large enough to carry all vehicles and supplies to support an Army brigade in heavy combat. The USNS Bob Hope has been used to support the Army in areas like the Balkans and Iraq.
Despite its role, the USNS Bob Hope is classified as a "non-combatant" and ship crewed by civilian mariners who work in the U.S. Navy "Military Sealift Command."
